Concerning "each word" that we allow our mouths to speak, Jesus warns us, "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by your words thou shalt be justified, and by your words thou shalt be condemned (Matthew 12:37)."
Proverb 18:20-21, "A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."
In these emotionally-charged times, "verbal judgments" are increasingly hurled, like flaming arrows, between people with differing viewpoints. We must constantly remind ourselves of the dangers of speaking before we think, constantly be intentional about taking our thoughts captive. The FACT is... one of Satan's most subtle yet deadly deceptions is blinding people to the reality that we WILL be judged by the same degree with which we judge others.
Galatians 5:23 encourages, "Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
Jesus Christ, Himself, said, "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam [is] in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye (Matthew 7:1-5)."
Proverb 25:28, "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls."
1 Peter 4:7, "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."
1 Peter 5:8-9, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world."
Bottom line? We MUST stop and think BEFORE we speak, remembering continuously what so often forgotten, the Truth that God will judge our every word... Every word "that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by your words thou shalt be justified, and by your words thou shalt be condemned (Matthew 12:37)."
