The Impossible Miracle

This is the Impossible Miracle that landed Keith in the 1st-Ever British Christian Rock Band in America...

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).”
In 1977 I (Keith) was the drummer for a secular rock band. We were traveling on a concert tour across the nation. While I was on tour, I began to feel a tug on my heart that I would come to realize was the gentle tug of The Holy Spirit.
At the time this was taking place, I did not know that The Holy Spirit was at work in me. It was not until well after this that I would learn that The Holy Spirit is actually "a person". Up to this moment in time, I had always thought The Holy Spirit was some mysterious heavenly gas, at best.
Needless to say, my rock and roll lifestyle was diametrically opposed to the ways of God. However, in the eyes of the world it looked like I had it made. I was doing what I was passionate about: playing music and getting the attention and praise of people everywhere we went. As far as I knew, things could not have been better. I always had plenty of money in my pocket and an abundant supply of everything that went with the lifestyle of being on the road and playing rock-n-roll shows. It was all downright euphoric, at first. In fact, for the first couple of years that I was on the road with the band, I was having a blast!
Our routine went something like this: travel to the city where we were scheduled to perform; check into the hotel; load our equipment into the venue and get set up; do a sound check; get something to eat; get showered; change into our stage clothes; perform the show; take all of the gear and equipment down to pack into all of the travel cases; load everything out of the venue and into the truck; go back to the hotel and party until about 5:00am with a group of “New Friends” that we had met during the concert; sleep for about six hours; wake up, get ready, and pack our luggage to move out; eat breakfast at lunch time; check out of the hotel; and travel to the next town where we would start to do it all over again.
I had been on tour for about four years when I started to sense my affections toward the whole thing beginning to change. The life I had been enjoying for those years, strangely, began feeling like a drudgery.
Instead of looking forward to the next gig, I was beginning to see it as a painfully monotonous thing. The phrase, “Same old thing–just different faces in a different city" became one that I found myself using with growing regularity. The realities of “road life” were starting to set in and wear on me, and I found myself getting high more often to break the boredom of “the routine” where I once did only got high for the fun of it. With each passing day, I felt things getting more and more mundane.
While I could tell that something was changing in me, I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was or what exactly was happening. What really puzzled me was how I was traveling with guys who had been on the road for much longer than me who seemed perfectly content. How is it that they “want” to do this for the rest of their lives?
Why is it that I am growing more and more unhappy? I was in the prime of my life living out one of my life-long dreams. From the time I was very young, one of my goals in life was to play music and concerts for a living! What I truly thought I wanted to do, living the dream I had dreamed ever since I was a young boy, was not bringing me the happiness I thought it would. I was starting to see the lifestyle for what it really was--a lonely road to a fruitless end. Now all I wanted to do was to get out of it.
So, there I was, surrounded by talented musicians that were attractive and financially well-to-do, being admired by people everywhere we went, but feeling myself becoming more and more isolated. I began to avoid the nightly “New Friends” parties. I would just go back to the hotel and watch TV in my room, something I hadn’t really done much before.
Shortly after this rather-confusing conversion began happening in my life, the band hired a new bass player named Larry Tamazo, a quiet guy and one of the most talented bass players I had ever worked with. Larry and I hit it off pretty well and started hanging out together. Before long, Larry noticed I was avoiding the party scenes where the rest of the band went every night. I, and you, will soon see that “it was God who brought Larry into the picture.”
One morning around 4:00 I was in my hotel room trying to make sense of everything I was feeling. I was wondering what I was supposed to do now. Should I stay with the band, or go back into sales where I had experience from earlier in my life, or what?
All of a sudden, for the first time since I was a boy, I began to see myself back at about eight years old, sitting with my mom and dad in church. I remembered going up to the altar and giving my life to Jesus Christ. I began to feel again how great my feeling of joy was that day, and it overwhelmed me again like it did back then. I remembered feeling that way for the whole week that followed. Even though I was only eight at the time when I first made my decision for Christ, the feeling I had that day was back, fresh again, the best day of my life all over again!
Suddenly, laying there in that hotel bed, I just knew what I had to do. I knew I had to call out to Jesus once again! I was overcome with the reality that I needed, and wanted, to confess my sins and to repent of my sins just as I had done in church so many years before.
I slid off of my bed onto the floor, bowed my head, and asked Jesus Christ to forgive me of everything that I had ever done that had hurt Him or anyone else. I then said “Amen” and crawled back into my bed. I immediately felt a peace and a joy like I had experienced at the altar as a child.
At breakfast that afternoon, I could hardly wait to tell Larry what had happened. He sat there and, as he listened, he smiled. In that very moment, an older waitress walked up to our table, looked straight into my eyes and said, “Son, you are a Christian aren’t you!?!” As simple as that may sound, it was a huge confirmation to me that God had indeed come into my heart as a result of my prayer just hours before.
Each night after that I could hardly wait to get back to my room to “hang out” with Jesus. As the weeks passed, the Holy Spirit was making it increasingly evident that I was not where God wanted me to be. I was feeling like a total stranger next to everyone I had once been so close to.
One day as I was in my room getting ready to do a show I had an interesting thought. Since music is what I do best, then why not do it for God instead of doing it “for the Devil”? As far me, having that idea was radical because I thought music in the church world was only boring “gospel quartets” and choirs. As much as I disliked the thought of playing “church-style” music, I hated the thought of not playing in service to God even more.
That night I kneeled beside my bed and prayed, “Lord, if you want me to play in a gospel quartet or for a church choir, I’ll pursue whatever You want me to just so I can use my music to serve You.” Believe me, making a commitment to play with a quartet or choir meant that I was truly surrendering my music and life to God. Placing my music “on the alter” that day felt the way I imagine Abraham felt placing Isaac on the alter of sacrifice (Genesis 22) before The LORD.
After I had prayed, I paused to think for a moment. Then I went back to God to throw in another request that I hoped He would answer with favor above my first prayer concerning a quartet or choir. Truthfully, though, I thought that my second or “add-on” request was so far-fetched that God, Himself, could not make it happen.
I had heard somewhere that God would grant us the desires of our hearts. That led me to the thought that, if there was ever a time for asking God for it all, for my heart’s absolute deepest desire, why not now? Why settle for anything less, or something I know He knows I’m not passionate about?
See, I was raised listening to and admiring British bands and musicians. I used to dream of getting to play in a British rock group one day. Remembering how I thought that church music only consisted of old gospel quartets and choirs, I decided to step out on a limb and ask God for the impossible; I asked Him to allow me to tour with a “British Christian Rock” band, something I was sure never existed in the past, and most likely never would exist.
Two days later, I went to my hotel room after finishing the night’s show. When I turned on the TV I could not believe what I was seeing with my own eyes! It was a late night Christian concert program called “Larry Leigh’s Concert Ministries.” Playing on the TV was a Christian rock band. I was stunned. I sat on the end of the bed watching the entire show hardly moving a muscle. I can remember thinking, “Wow, there is a whole world out there that I never knew existed!”
As the program was ending I knew that I had to get any and all of the information about the show including who it was that aired it that night. I reached for a piece of paper and a pen and wrote down the contact information showing on the screen. Right then, at 3:00 in the morning, so excited about learning this new thing, I wrote Larry Leigh a letter to explain much of what I have shared here, and to ask if he knew of any Christian bands in need of an experienced drummer. I put the letter in an envelope, sealed it, put a stamp on it, and took it straight to the outgoing mail box at the hotel’s front desk.
Incidentally, while on the road I used my mother as my point of contact and used her mailing address as my own. I called her later that same day to tell her the story about Larry Leigh and the letter I sent to him. She told me that she would keep a look-out for an envelope from him and would contact me if anything arrived.
Two cities, six days later I got a call from Mom telling me that I had received a letter from Larry Leigh. She asked if I would like for her to read it to me. With great expectation I, of course, said, “Yes! Please!”
The letter read, “Dear Keith, thank you for your letter. I do not know of any Christian bands looking for a drummer at this time, but I have enclosed two pages of Christian booking agencies for you to check out. Maybe one of them can help in your search for God’s plan for your life.”
Mom said there were 24 agencies on the list. I asked her to mail the list to the next city hotel where we were scheduled to stay. She said she would send a copy first thing the next morning.
As soon as I received the list of agencies, I knew what I had to do. I drew up my resume (I jokingly tell people that my major in college was football and that my minor was business). Then I wrote a heartfelt cover letter and went across the street from the hotel to a quaint little print shop to ask for 30 matching sets of my cover letter, my resume, and envelope. The clerk told me that they would be ready the next day.
When I returned to the print shop the next day, I was greeted by the clerk accompanied by a very nice, classy-looking, middle-aged lady introduced to me as having read my cover letter and being greatly blessed by it. At that, the nice lady said, “Keith, the owner of this company and I want you to know that we are not going to charge you for the work that we have done on your resume and letter. Your consuming desire to serve Jesus Christ has touched us all deeply! We would consider it a privilege to give these packets to you free of charge.” Wow! I must have thanked them at least 20 times before I said goodbye and headed straight for my hotel room to get the packets ready to mail.
Once I finished, I grabbed the prepared packets and held them up to the heavens asking God to receive them, and my life, as my gift to Him. Isn’t it interesting how I knew to do that without being taught? The Holy Spirit is wonder-full!
Next, I drove to the nearest U. S. Postal Service. I prayed once more for God’s blessing over the packets, then I dropped them into the mailbox. Each day and night I continued praying that God would get just one of them into the hands of the right person.
About three weeks later, as I was setting up with the band in Panama City, Florida, someone from the front office shouted, “Keith, you have an important phone call.” When I picked up the phone, it was Mom asking me, “Are you sitting down?” I said that I was. She then read a letter from a Christian booking agency located in Nashville, TN. “Keith, I received your letter, was very impressed with you your credentials, and would like to talk with you as soon as possible. I think I have something that will be of great interest to you.” Mom gave me the phone number and we hung up.
Without delay, I called the agent. He said, “Keith, what I have to offer you is something that is completely different than anything the Christian music industry in this country has ever had the privilege to experience. This is going to be huge! As a matter of fact, it is going to be a history-making endeavor, and I would like to invite you to audition for it.” Somewhat reluctantly I asked him, “What have you got?” Like Saul’s experience encountering Jesus Christ on his journey on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-19), hearing the agent’s answer would change my life forever. He asked me, “Keith, how would you feel about being the drummer for the first ever British Christian rock band to come to America?”
Needless to say, I was stunned! With that one phone call I was witnessing God do something that I just knew was “totally impossible”. This was one of those stories that you only read about, but there I was standing right in the middle of it.
A week later, I flew to Nashville to audition for the band. They picked me up at the airport and we headed straight downtown where the recording studio they had rented for the audition was located. The studio had been closed down for several weeks and, consequently, the instruments were out of tune.
The heads on all of the drums were loose, making them impossible to play. We looked everywhere for a drum key, or even a pair of pliers, that we could use to tighten the drum heads. We couldn’t find anything that worked to tune them. We tried to squeeze out a song or two, but it was fruitless. No matter what I tried to play, it sounded terrible.
Feeling a bit dejected, we packed up and headed for a local restaurant. All I could think of was how much I wanted to play in the band with those guys. At that point, it all seemed to be falling apart right before my eyes. Why was this happening? The reason would soon reveal itself.
Over dinner, as we were talking, it was becoming increasingly evident to all of us that God was knitting our hearts together. Even though the audition did not go well, we were having a great time together. We finished eating and headed for the van.
I knew I had to do something if I wanted to salvage my dream. So I stopped the guys and asked, “Where is your bass player?” It turned out that they were auditioning bass players as well. I said boldly, “Brothers, this whole thing is God, I just know it!” I went on to tell them that I have a friend named Larry who is a great bass player. Then, with all of the boldness I could muster, I said, “You guys need to come to Florida and hear Larry and I working together on stage as the accomplished rhythm section that we have become. I guarantee you will like it!”
Standing on that sidewalk that night in Nashville, Tennessee, the guys looked around at one another and decided, “You’ve got it, we’ll come to Florida!” We set a date. It would be just one week later when the group of guys would come to our show in Florida!
The next week, as the guys sat through our entire show, I must admit that it was pretty nerve-racking to be playing on the stage as three internationally-known musicians watched us. They were talking back and forth among themselves. I expected they were critiquing our every move.
After the show, I introduced Larry to them. My heart felt as if it was going to pound out of my chest as we all sat down together. I was nervous but excited to hear what our new British friends thought of our performance. Our new British friends looked at one another very calmly, asking who wanted to comment first. I think I was sweating more at that moment than I had all night under the intense stage lights.
The first to speak was the band’s highly-acclaimed lead guitarist and vocalist from Liverpool, Norman Barrett. Norman had played with several bands from England that I greatly admired. The next to speak was the band’s keyboard player and vocalist from London, Phil Holmes. He had an eloquence like nobody else when he spoke. Alwyn, the band’s leader from Nottinghamshire, spoke last. What each of them said filled my heart with unspeakable and overflowing joy!
All three of them then leaned across the table and Alwyn said, “Keith, if you will take the gig, and we pray you will, it’s yours!” I said, “Larry too?” They all shook their head in agreement as Alwyn said, “Yes! Of course!” All of us shook hands, hugged one another, and it was done!
That night we saw the first-ever British Christian rock band to come to America completed–the miraculous fulfillment of the prayer that I didn’t think even God, Himself, was big enough to make happen. Believe me when I tell you that, no matter what you are going through, there is NOthing too big for God!
The next day, to celebrate, we all met on the sugar-white sand beaches of Panama City, Florida. After swimming and enjoying the beach with our three new band mates, we all ate dinner together before saying “see you later”. They headed back to Nashville.
Larry and I joined them two weeks later. The name of the band was “The Alwyn Wall Band” and was signed by Myrrh (Word) Records. The year that I spent working with Alwyn and all of the guys in the band was the best time of my life... as the drummer for “the 1st-ever British Christian Rock Band to come to America!”
Over the course of our time touring America together, Alwyn and Norman taught me how to play the basic, simple, open chords on guitar. Since then, I have practiced and used those seven chords to write countless of my own songs over the years. I have played, and continue to play, my simple guitar songs to minister The Gospel of Jesus Christ wherever I can. My ministries, both as a soloist and as leader of my own bands, have all been a continuation of my time with “me wonder-full mates from England”, playing in various venues like music halls, performance theaters, colleges, concert auditoriums, military installations, recording studios, and church facilities of all sizes and denominations.

Celebrate Single-ness Preparing for The Prepared

SINGLE-NESS: “the most important part of an original human..." whether married or unmarried.

Every year during the month of February we see a whole lot of attention turned toward husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, and the search to find a “sweetheart”. Oddly enough, the qualities we would like in our “sweetheart”, and what we mean by “Will you be my Valentine?” is too-often skipped in Bible studies among Christian friends and family. This week, today, is the perfect time for “preparing for ‘the prepared’” and walking out the truth of “single-ness”.

We have a faith-building nugget of wisdom that we believe will prove to be as valuable to you as it has been to our family members and ministry friends and acquaintances. You may be surprised to know that, in our 40+ years of experience, we have seen many more guys and ladies come to ask us to join with them in prayer and waiting for God to introduce them to their life-mate than those who “celebrate single-ness”.  Firstly, for anyone not familiar with us as a ministry couple, I (Keith) spent fifty-two years of my life unmarried and learning how to attain single-ness”.

Like many or even most unmarried individuals, we can honestly tell you it is not easy to be alone or to be patient all the time when we wait for God to answer our prayers.  For me (Keith), some weeks I prayed every day asking God to reveal my mate to me. Some weeks I prayed for God to introduce her to me at certain ministry events or church services. I often walked in quietly wondering, "Is 'she' going to be here?" I couldn't even tell you how many well-meaning people would come up to me to say things like, "God must be preparing a really amazing girl for you" or "Don’t worry because, when you finally meet her, you’ll just know she’s 'the one'!"

Week after week, month after month, year after year, and decade after decade, I couldn't seem to silence the voices in my head although I lived an active, busy life that was not really consumed with "finding her".  No matter where I went, like a pesky little brother that your mom makes you take along with you wherever you want to go, those annoying voices would sound off asking questions like, "Is she here?… Is she?  Is she??"  Each time the voices started up again, I thought to myself, "If I could just get my hands on those loud rascals... !"

There I was, a minister at a great church, a dream football career, a dream music career that led me to start The Keith Shealy Band for touring and recording my own songs, a great group of young adults learning to lead like Jesus,... I could go on and on. I was the guy who, people so-often said, "had it all together". Little did they know that, because all of my friends were married, I spent years eating alone in restaurants, coming home from the Church alone, watching Sunday afternoon football games alone, and doing everything I could think of to help to silence the deafening screams of loneliness. I would all-but beg God to tell me what it was that was wrong with me so I could change it. All I wanted was for God to help prepare me for meeting the lady I was praying for.

Well, the day came when I just knew I finally had a plan that would silence those voices of loneliness.  I decided I would out-smart the voices by convincing myself that I was born without 'the marriage gene'! I thought to myself that t-h-a-t will surely shut those voices down.

I admit, to my disappointment, my plan did not work at all. Just like every other thing I tried doing “on my own” I had no success to speak of. The voices continued.

By the time I turned forty years old, I knew that those voices won't just shut up. That’s when I finally decided to drown 'em out with God's written Word!  That was the very BEST decision I had ever made in my life up to that point!!

I began to seek God and meditate on His written and spoken Word, and with great diligence like never before.  It was only then that the volume of those voices, which I knew were not God’s, lowered... From deafening, to annoying, to tolerable-like whispers, at least for the most part.

Finally, I learned that "I" had to stop dwelling on things that were not of God... like most TV shows. I finally stopped to realize how destructive and suggestive most prime-time television programs had become. I knew that I had to do something about that. So, I called the cable company and canceled my TV cable!

Now, turning off my TV became the first of five steps to become tried-and-proven disciplines, five key things that The Holy Spirit used to teach me what being truly single means. If you want God's blessing of a life-mate like only He can bring, you will learn and follow these five steps, below. These practical steps will work for you, and anyone who seeks a blessed Life-mate, if practiced in faith. Here’s your plan to start today, right now... and to make, as your Life-goal, preparing for the prepared you are praying for and to, in turn, “Celebrate Single-ness!”

1)   Turn off the TV!  If you look to Hollywood to set your expectations for a mate, loneliness will remain your companion.  Recognize that unreal, or unreasonable, expectations rob us from, not only our peace but, every good thing Jesus Christ wants us to have.  Having said that, I am in no way suggesting that you, or any individual, compromise yourself by settling for someone who you know doesn’t go after God, doesn’t love God wholeheartedly, or doesn’t want to know God’s Word,Will, and Ways.  Besides, marriage is God’s original idea, not man's idea. And it will NOT function correctly with-out (on the outside of) God and His Word.  ~Never forget:  WithOUT GOD... it is NOT Holy Matrimony.~
2)   YOU cannot "FIX 'em"!  If you think you can change someone, you are deceived. Brace yourself for a tumultuous ride.  Only Christ Jesus has the power to change a human heart.  Marriage is not a 50/50 arrangement; it's a 100/100 commitment.  So, relax!  Trust God to introduce you to "a God-blessed possibility."  We must warn you, however, to beware of someone attempting to win your affection with words like, "But I am a Christian." Take time to "watch" for "the fruit" of their life!  Standing in a church building on Sunday or Wednesday makes someone a Christian about as much as your standing in a garage makes you a car.  As a safeguard for us, Jesus teaches in Matthew 7:15-20, Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.  You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?  Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.  A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  Therefore by their fruits you will know them."
3)   Prepare for what you are praying for. We do NOT want to meet the prepared... unprepared.  Diligently seek God.  Become the kind of person that you've been asking God to bring to you.  Be passionate about, and in love with, God and His Word, His Will, and His Ways.  And do everything as God and His Word tells us to... ‘F’ully ‘R’ely ‘O’n ‘G’od (FROG).  Be sure you take a look in the mirror.  Do you dress, and carry yourself, with the same quality and dignity that you expect in your life-mate?  If not, you can change it!  Remember, it’s all about achieving “single-ness” by “preparing for ‘the prepared’”. Otherwise: it’s “insanity” that does the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. Good news… *You can't BE something you're NOT, but you can BECOME something you're NOT.*
4)   In the wisdom of the late Dr. Myles Munroe, "You don't get married because you NEED to; You get married because you WANT to!  And you'll never have ‘the want-to' until you don't have ‘the need-to'."
5)   Finally, in many of our churches today, the word "single" is synonymous with "unmarried."  That is, in fact, a very deceptive, demonic revelation.  The truth is, in order for a person to achieve "single-ness” there is a process by which he or she becomes a "Separate, Unique, and Whole" person! That is a “truly single” individual, whether married or unmarried.  "Single-ness" is a crucially important part of a human being and it must be “pursued”! In order for an individual to qualify in “single-ness”, being “the prepared” for marriage, he or she must first become "Separate, Unique, and Whole"!  That means, a person should never consider getting married until they have become truly single first.  Only one who becomes "truly single" can qualify as “the prepared” for marriage.  Becoming "truly single" can only be achieved through Jesus Christ by the tutelage and leading of The Holy Spirit.  We cannot do it without Him.   Becoming "Separate, Unique, and Whole" should be the goal; not "becoming married."

About twelve years after God and I walked together “preparing for 'the prepared'", God introduced me to Brenda on the wonder-full SuperBowl Sunday of 2008! From that day on, Bren and I both “Celebrate SINGLE-ness.”  In fact, the more "single" each of us has become, the sweeter our marriage has become, experiencing more blessed fruit of God's Holy Spirit with each passing year... “But the fruit of The Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23).

Love, hope, joy, and fulfillment comes with single-ness, along with so much more i-n God. We have received countless gifts and blessings from The LORD... from our 2 1/2 year courtship, to our wedding “in Holy Matrimony” by Pastors Clay and Dee Davis who have spiritually covered me since 1979, to our life-long prayers, hopes, and dreams coming true in our lives, even to this day.

Before any of us can be truly ready for marriage, we must first achieve "single-ness." Only becoming successful at "single-ness" prepares us for success in marriage. “Being Separate, Unique, and Whole" is the goal... not just to be married.

Relax and trust The LORD, He is our Rest! Release any and all unreal or unreasonable expectations... of marriage, God, and others. When we make that first, and each consecutive, step toward Him Who fashioned us, He reaches back and works *with* us, "Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you… (James 4:8)." Concerning the popular belief that God chooses your mate for you, there's a quote from the late Dr. Myles Munroe to clear that misled idea right up... "God knows, better than anyone, how we often change our minds, so he won’t choose our mate for us in order that we can’t blame Him for a mate we later decide was a bad choice." Instead, He will put someone 'on display' for you and leave you with your will to make your own choice. ~Once you daily pursue ONEness with God, your wisdom and understanding *in Him* changes everything! Your focus on working *with God* will lead you beyond your greatest expectations! Watch and see!!!"~

How to Receive A Prophet's Reward

In The Gospel of Matthew, Jesus Christ says something that The Holy Spirit has used repeatedly in my life over the years to ensure that I receive God's spoken Word, a prophet's reward, no matter who is preaching or teaching at any given moment. He said, "He that receiveth you receiveth Me, and he that receiveth Me receiveth Him that sent Me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward (Matthew 10:40-41)."

One day after I (Keith) had finished reading those verses in Matthew 10, The Holy Spirit whispered to me the last verse, but a bit differently, in a way that would change my life. I heard Him say, "He that receives 'a prophet' in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward; and he that receives 'a righteous man in the name of a prophet' will receive a prophet's reward." Right then, The Holy Spirit revolutionized my pursuit of being made one in Jesus Christ.

God's wonder-full Holy Spirit had profoundly displayed for me, in real time, how important it is for us to pursue The Holy Spirit whenever we open God's Holy written Word and begin reading. In fact, having God's infinitely wonder-full Gift of His Holy Spirit makes all the difference in our lives when it comes to our being in God's perfect Will for our lives! The Holy Spirit, and Him alone, IS Who leads us to "believe", and ultimately become a "Believing Believer", in Jesus Christ. If we "ignore" The Holy Spirit, we will find ourselves tragically outside of God's Will, even if we are faithful in giving tithes, are "a good person", and/or have perfect church attendance, the best we can ever expect to be is an "unbelieving-Believer." The Holy Spirit made that point evident to me one evening as I was reading in 2 Corinthians, chapter 3, and particularly verse 6.

In Apostle Paul's second letter to the Corinthians in chapter 3 and verses 2 through 6, Paul teaches us a crucial life-or-death truth, "Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of The New Testament; not of the letter, but of the (Holy) Spirit: for the letter kills, but the (Holy) Spirit gives Life (2 Corinthians 3:2-6)."

It was that evening, while I was reading and listening for The Holy Spirit's sweet and still, small voice, that I received a priceless gift, a revelation, a Life-giving truth, that God's Holy written Word, in and of itself, is not "an end" but is "the means to an end". As we call on the matchless Name of Jesus Christ, we can meet with and receive, as we read, The Holy Spirit's teaching, a Prophet's Reward.

Now, here is where The Holy Spirit clarified it for me. This is what He whispered into my spirit's ear, "If God's people will receive a pastor, a preacher, or a teacher of God's Word in the name of a mediocre pastor, preacher, or teacher, God's people will receive a mediocre pastor, preacher, or teacher's reward, ultimately cheating themselves out of receiving all that God has for them. On the other hand, if they will receive a mediocre pastor, preacher, or teacher of God's Word in the name of 'a prophet'... then they will receive 'a prophet's reward'.

Perhaps one of The New Testament's most appropriate examples of someone who desperately needed "a prophets reward" is the miraculous account of the woman that received healing from a twelve-year-long issue of blood. Luke 8:40-48 reads, "And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received Him: for they were all waiting for Him. And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought Him that He would come into his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as He went the people thronged Him. And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind Him, and touched the border of His garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched Me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng Thee and press Thee, and sayest Thou, Who touched Me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched Me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of Me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before Him, she declared unto Him before all the people for what cause she had touched Him, and how she was healed immediately. And He said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace (Luke 8:40-48)."

Question: Out of all of the people who were pressing against Jesus in the crowd that day, why did the woman who suffered from an issue of blood for twelve long years receive healing? Simply put, she was desperate! She "believed" Jesus Christ was Who she had heard other people say He was... and believed it! Most people in the crowd that day, sadly, viewed Jesus Christ as "a good or even a righteous man" at best. If we truly w-a-n-t to personally receive a prophet's reward for ourselves, God's spoken Word delivered to us by way of The wonder-full Holy Spirit, we must desperately "want Jesus Christ". We must "reach" for Him.

Sadly, in my years of walking i-n Jesus Christ, I've heard far too many church folks complain behind their pastor or elder's back that they were "not being fed" spiritually under the teaching and/or preaching of their pastor or teachers. We must remember, when Jesus Christ explained why the lady with the issue of blood was healed, He accredited it to "her faith." Her money was gone, spent on physicians that had no success at healing her at all, and she had reached the end of her rope, so to speak. Here is what compelled her to have the faith enough to be healed: She was at the place in her life where all of us must come to; She not only "reached" for Him with her hand but she "reached" for Him with her heart. She was determined to receive "a prophet's" reward that day. And she was determined she would not stop until she received it.

We must remember, when Jesus Christ explained why the lady with the issue of blood was healed, He accredited it to "her faith." Here is the catalyst for why she was healed: she was desperate; She was at the place where all of us must come to; She was determined to receive The Lord's "reward". If we w-a-n-t to personally receive God's Word, delivered to us by way of The wonder-full Holy Spirit, we must desperately "want Jesus Christ". I can say this with all confidence that "every" time that I have reached for Jesus Christ out of desperation He has always responded to me, and in ways that built my faith in God exponentially.

We would like to conclude with a life-changing piece of advice. Despite what any local church member personally thinks about the pastor --how knowledgeable he may or may no be, or how well he understands or delivers God's Holy written Word-- if we receive a pastor in the name of a mediocre "preacher", we will only receive a mediocre preacher's reward, at best. On the other hand, if we will receive a pastor (or preacher or teacher) in the name of 'a prophet', we will receive 'a prophet's reward'. The Holy Spirit will see to that.

If we will go, believing and expecting to "receive from God" what He gives Jesus Christ to relay to The Holy Spirit to give to us, personally, in real time, we will receive "the prophet's reward"... the priceless Word of God delivered to us, for us, by The wonder-full Holy Spirit. People who do not know and walk in this are understanding are putting an undue load of their pastor's, teachers and preachers by looking to them for what only God can give to us by way of His Holy Spirit. That is why God sent Him, to bring to us want He gives Jesus Christ to relay to The Holy Spirit Who then gives God's message, to us... personally.

As Brenda and I have learned and hold onto is, anything of value is worth fighting for and will be challenged by Satan. This especially applies to our pressing our way in-to God's Holy Presence. The Holy Spirit once emphasized to me how "anxious spirits" are the arch enemies to our obtaining and walking in the kind of "faith" that pleases God. As we prepare to enter through God's gates with thanksgiving and enter into His courts with praise, we must be equipped, in The Name of Jesus Christ, much like clearing a path through a spiritual jungle, to cut through, using the sword of The Spirit, any and all obstacles that come to hinder us from arriving at our Father's feet.

We pray that our message encourages you to reach for Jesus Christ like you never have before. We would also like to mention that, perhaps, the most challenging conflicts that I have ever found myself in have been those that come when I begin my journey into God's presence. Shortly after I find a quit place, get alone, relax, and slowly begin reading God's Holy written Word they arrive, memories, noises, ideas all come in an attempt at hindering our pressing our way into God's wonderful presence.  I say that to point out, that it takes work to focus solely on pursuing audience with God, but be encouraged, learn God's protocols, increase your time, from now on, to meeting with The Holy Spirit in the pages of God's Holy written Word and trust us, you will soon receive a prophets reward, God's spoken word delivered to you personally through Jesus Christ by way of God's wonder-full Holy Spirit.
