In Passionate Pursuit of SINGLENESS this Valentine's Day Week

"Flipcard Menu of Blog Titles"

"Dyou know the level at which The Person of The Holy Spirit KNOWS and HONORS those who truly love God?!  In His Presence you become keenly aware that He holds and intimately deeper understanding of YOU than even YOU have of yourself!  In His Presence, you immediately become aware that you are "HOME" - with "FAMILY" - and that the part you were created and assigned by God to perform, and complete, is crucial to God's Calculated Plan!
The following link leads to a very special Between The Lines podcast feature, one of the most profound revelations I would have never realized if I hadn't seen and heard it for myself, concerning the pursuit of God and His Plan and direction for us. If you have not been honored and celebrated in the presence of The Person of The Holy Spirit, you have n-o  i-d-e-a who you really ARE!  LISTEN IN to the podcast feature:
'FACE-TO-FACE with THE PERSON of THE HOLY SPIRIT'  and be sure and pass this on to others you know need encouragement too."

During this week when so much attention is turned toward husband and wife love relationships, and boyfriends and girlfriend dating relationships, we would like to offer some advice to those who are currently not married and praying for their future mate. I spent the first fifty-two years of my life by myself and I'm not going to tell you it was always easy being alone, or patiently waiting.

Some weeks I prayed daily for God to reveal my mate to me, and sometimes I prayed more than once a day. Whenever I entered a ministry service or event, I often wondered, "Is 'she' (the 'one') going to be here?" And, I couldn't even tell you how many times I would hear well-meaning people come up to me and say things like, "Brother, God must really be preparing some amazing girl for you" or, "When you meet 'the one', you'll know it!"
Day after day, month after month, year after year, and decade after decade, though I was not really consumed with finding 'her', I couldn't seem to silence the voices in my head. Like a pesky little brother Mom makes you take with you wherever you go, voices would sound off at every turn, questioning, "Is she here? Is she? Is she??" Each time those annoying voices started up again, all I could think was, "If only I could get my hands on those little suckers... !"
There I was, a successful minister at a great church; had my dream football career; toured and recorded with my own band; and I could go on and on... the guy everyone always said seemed like the one who has it all together! And, for years, because all of my friends were married, I ate in restaurants alone, came home after church on Sundays and turned on the football game in an attempt to silence the deafening loneliness, and all but begged God to reveal to me just what it was that was wrong with me so I could work on changing it.
Well, I finally came up with a plan. I thought, "I could out-smart those voices by convincing myself that I was born without 'the marriage gene'! That would surely shut 'em up!" Well, just like every other thing I tried to do on my own, my plan didn't work. The voices continued.
By the time I was about forty years old, I decided that, if I can't shut 'em up, I'll flood 'em out, with God's Word! That was the very BEST decision I have ever made in my life!! I began seeking God and meditating on His Word, with a greater diligence than I ever had before. It was only then that the voices went from deafening, to annoying, to tolerable-like whispers... at least for the most part.
Finally, I learned that "I" had to stop dwelling on things that were not of God, like TV shows. Realizing just how destructive and suggestive primetime television programming was becoming, I knew I had to do something about that. So I called the cable company, and cancelled it!
If you truly want a Godly mate, there are a few things I can share, from my own personal experience, that really helped me prepare for the day that God allowed me to meet Brenda. I encourage you to practice what I endearingly call "The Tried-and-Proven 5-Step Prep" laid out below. There couldn't be a better time to start than now, this Valentine's Day week.
1) Turn the TV off! If you look to Hollywood to set your expectations for a mate, loneliness will remain your companion. Recognize that unreal, or unreasonable, expectations rob us from receiving, not only our peace but, every good thing Jesus Christ wants us to have. Having said that, I am in no way suggesting you compromise yourself by settling for someone who you know does not know and love God wholeheartedly. After all, marriage was not man's idea, it's God's, and it will NOT function correctly with-out (on the outside of) God and His Word. ~Never forget this: Without GOD... it's NOT Holy Matrimony.~
2) YOU cannot "FIX 'em"! If you think you can change someone, you are deceived, and brace yourself for a torturous ride. Only Christ Jesus has the power to change the human heart. Marriage is not a 50/50 arrangement; it's a 100/100 commitment. So, relax! Trust God to introduce you to a "Godly possibility." I must warn you, however. Just because someone, in an attempt to win your heart, says they are a Christian, it doesn't mean they are! Standing in a church building on Sunday makes someone a Christian about as much as standing in a garage makes you a car. As a safeguard for us, Jesus says in Matthew 7:15-20, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them."
3) Prepare for what you are praying for. You do NOT want to meet the prepared, unprepared. Diligently seek God. Become the kind of person that you've been asking God to bring to you. Be passionate about, and in love with, God and His Word. And do everything as God and His Word tells you to. Look in the mirror. Do you dress, and carry yourself, in the same way that you have envisioned your future mate will? If not, change it! *You can't BE something you're NOT, but you can BECOME something you're NOT.* I once heard it said that "'Insanity' is doing the same thing over and over again, while expecting different results."
4) You don't get married because you NEED to; You get married because you WANT to! And you'll never have the "want-to" until you don't have the "need-to."
5) Finally, and crucially important, the word "single" does not mean "not married." The word "single" means: to be Separate, Unique, and Whole, and it's the most important part of the original state of a person's life! So, before you are ready for marriage, you must first become "single." Only until you become "single" will you be ready for marriage. Becoming "Separate, Unique, and Whole" within yourself should be your goal; not "becoming married."
The moral of this blog is, no matter what you've done, no matter where you've been in this life, the dreams you've carried since you were a child - including taking part in enjoying Holy Matrimony as God, the Author of Marriage, explains for us in His Word - can, and will, be fulfilled by seeking God first, foremost, and until your time in this life in final.
We pray God bless you greatly as you carry this truth in your heart. Our thanks to our loving Toward The Mark Family of sponsors who make this blog, and all of our resources, possible by their faithful prayer and monthly financial support!

Keith's "Comments from the Author":

"When I was a young believer, I remember hearing someone at our church make the statement, 'Sitting in a pew makes you a Christian as much as standing in a garage makes you a car.' When it comes to identifying ourselves as Christians, I often say that we are identifying ourselves by a verb, not a noun. What I mean by that is Being conformed into the image of Christ is a process that takes place over time. The one who is seeking to be conformed into the image of Christ must daily apply himself to being transformed. Though going to the alter at church to ask Christ to come into your heart gets your name in The Book of Life, becoming Christ-like in nature is a journey that, at that point, is just beginning. I have found that my being successfully transformed takes one key ingredient. That is 'having the WANT to' to change, having the WANT to be just like Christ."

"Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light." (Ephesians 5:14)

75 Years ago... December 7th, 1941

Special 75th Anniversary reflection
Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz…
his profound perspective and insight into the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

“Thanks to Admiral Nimitz’ ability to see, we have, on record, a much better account of what actually happened at Pearl Harbor than the accounts told by the script writers of the movies TORA! TORA! TORA! (1970) and PEARL HARBOR (2001)." - Keith

Our part is to recognize that, when it seems we are
surrounded by troubles and woe, in the words of the prophet Elisha, “Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha." (2 Kings 6:16-17)

Find this, and more, in our 30-year review of TTM in TTM MAGAZINE.
The rare ability to see, instead of merely looking, is illustrated in the true account of U.S. Navy Admiral Chester Nimitz’s profound insights as he surveyed the aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Admiral Nimitz had eyes that could see with respect to tactical naval warfare. He was so well studied and experienced in the art of war that it did not take him long to recognize where the Japanese had made three fatal mistakes in their planning for and execution of their attacks on our ships at Pearl Harbor. These three errors rendered them unsuccessful in their attempt to utterly destroy the US Navy’s Pacific Fleet.
If you visit Pearl Harbor, you will find boats ferrying people out to the USS Arizona Memorial every 30 minutes. In the gift shop there you will find a book entitled, “Reflections on Pearl Harbor” by Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz. In that book, you will read that on Sunday, December 7, 1941, Admiral Nimitz was attending a concert in Washington, D.C. when he was paged and told there was a phone call for him. When he answered the phone, he found that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was on the line.
The President told Admiral Nimitz that in light of the attack on Pearl Harbor Admiral Nimitz would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet, landing at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. He found such a spirit of despair, dejection, and defeat that it would seem the Japanese had already won the war.
On Christmas Day, 1941, Admiral Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters everywhere you looked. As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked, “Well, Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?”
Admiral Nimitz’s reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice. Admiral Nimitz said, “The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make or God was taking care of America. Which do you think it was?”
Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, “What do you mean by saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?” Nimitz’s explanation is summarized below.
Mistake number one: The Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those same ships had been lured to sea and then sunk, we would have lost 38,000 men instead of 3,800.
Mistake number two: When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks that were sitting across from those ships. If they had destroyed the dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of the damaged ships to America to be repaired. As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and can be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time it would have taken to tow them to America; and I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships.
Mistake number three: Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in storage tanks on top of the ground only five miles away. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our entire fuel supply.
That’s why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make or God was taking care of America. It was Admiral Nimitz’ many years of first-hand tactical experience that gave him the ability to recognize that “The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make.” In turn, it was that same experience that equipped him to be able to see God’s divine intervention where most saw only despair and defeat.
The young helmsman and so many others looked at the devastation and were in many ways crippled by the destruction and despair. On the other hand, Admiral Nimitz looked at the same devastation and saw something completely different. He knew how unlikely it was that the very capable Japanese war planners would miss three such obvious tactical points while preparing their assault, and this made it evident to him that God had intervened on America’s behalf on December 7, 1941. As devastating as the loss of our brave men and women were that day, as Admiral Nimitz states, the results would have been much worse if God had not intervened on our behalf.
Even as Admiral Nimitz looked at utter devastation and could see the grace of God at work on the behalf of our great Nation, we have the same opportunity to look beyond whatever it is that we may be going through and see the redeeming power of God working on our behalf as well. As the Scripture says in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” These are not empty words: God means every one of them, and He wants us to trust Him to do His part.
God promises that in every trial He will provide the way of escape. He also promises to never leave us or forsake us. We need to believe Him and we need to seek Him early, so that when we do find ourselves in trouble, He will open our eyes that we may truly see: because eyes that look are common; eyes that see are rare!

Honoring our American Military Veterans and so many Unsung Heroes

As the war efforts are unpublished in the headlines of the evening news, so is the public awareness of the massive growing needs of our brave warriors and their families. With suicide in the military veteran population increasing as a result of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and depression, the troops that are suffering are, by far, not the only sufferers.

Perhaps the least mentioned are the thousands of children who are being left without parents, either by death or by emotional absence. Either way, an epidemic of kids, needing to be loved, and in many cases, re-parented, is increasing every day. We must reach them with the fact that, though their Dads and Moms may not be with them in one way or another, their Heavenly Father most certainly is, and He is only a prayer away!

No less devastating are those who give their all to serve us in battle only to return to find that they cannot find jobs. Of the many millions of troops who have served in America’s “war on terror” in Iraq and Afghanistan, more than 2.9m have transitioned to a civilian life plagued by high rates of homelessness, unemployment, and even substandard health care they desperately need.

How is TowardsTheMark, Inc. helping?
